A quiet winter moment shaped by water, ice, and time.
This photograph was created on a dim winter day along the Aurajoki river in Lieto. The river was partially frozen, its surface broken by dark stones, moss, and slow-moving water. By using a long exposure, the flowing water softened into smooth, rhythmic forms while ice and snow remained still and sharp.
The contrast between motion and stillness defines the image. Water becomes almost abstract, while the frozen textures anchor the scene in the physical world. Subtle tones of grey, black, and white create a nearly monochrome palette, allowing form and light to carry the atmosphere.
Water & Moss explores balance and restraint. It captures a moment where winter quiets the landscape, and time seems to slow just enough for the details to emerge.
