Low clouds had covered the mountains since morning.
We had spent the first long day of fishing and hiking in steady rain. The valleys were quiet and the light remained flat and grey for hours. In the afternoon the weather slowly began to change. The clouds that had hung low over the fells started to loosen and drift apart.
For a brief moment the sun reached the hillside.
The light moved across the slope, revealing the textures of stone and sparse birch forest while mist still lingered in the valley. It was a quiet transition — the landscape returning to light after the long rain.
